Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure
Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure
Comments on this notice must be received no later than October 21, 2026.
For more information go to:Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)
Consistent with the Department of Health and Human Services’ focus on environmental factors affecting human health, HHS is requesting information on electromagnetic field (EMF) exposures, particularly radiofrequency (RF) and wireless sources, and their potential health effects. For clarity, RF radiation and other non-ionizing EMFs are collectively referred to as “RF/EMF.”
The goal of this request is to assess current scientific evidence, compare domestic and international safety standards and regulatory approaches, identify research gaps, and support evidence-based guidance for policymakers, public health stakeholders, families, schools, and communities.
EMFs include energy fields from electrically charged particles and currents across a wide frequency range, from low-frequency power systems and household devices to higher-frequency wireless communication technologies. Public interest in RF/EMF exposure, especially regarding children and long-term exposure, has grown, while the scientific literature remains complex and sometimes difficult to interpret consistently across jurisdictions.
HHS invites input from researchers, clinicians, public health professionals, industry, standards organizations, educators, advocacy groups, and the public, with a request to clearly distinguish between established findings and emerging evidence. Respondents are encouraged to specify the sources of their information, including peer-reviewed research, government reports, industry data, or clinical observations, and to reference relevant guidelines or frameworks where applicable.
Submissions should include supporting evidence and citations or links where available. Comments on this request for information are due by October 21, 2026, and further details can be found under the Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs).
