EMR101 - Healthy Home Summit

Rob Metzinger - Two decades in the field distilled into the basics everyone should have: the three kinds of fields in every home, how to measure each one, and the handful of changes that cut exposure the most. Calm, technical and practical, with the bedroom as the place to start.

October 2026 - Presentation

Key Learnings

  • There are three fields to understand, and each is measured and mitigated differently. Magnetic, electric and radiofrequency.

  • You cannot fix what you have not measured. A meter turns the invisible into something you can act on.

  • The bedroom is the highest value room to make low EMF. That is where the body repairs across seven to nine hours of sleep.

  • The biggest wins are simple: distance, hardwiring instead of wireless and switching off bedroom circuits at night.

  • This is a real, published field now. Rob co-authored peer reviewed work on building science and radiofrequency with Frank Clegg, former president of Microsoft Canada, Dr. Anthony Miller, WHO cancer control advisor, and Theodora Scarato of Environmental Health Trust.

The changes that made the biggest difference

These came up repeatedly from attendees who have already taken action:

→ Switching from WiFi to ethernet — consistently cited as the single highest-impact change
→ Turning off bedroom breakers at night — simple, free, and significant
→ Removing Bluetooth devices from sleeping areas
→ Using shielding products strategically — with proper installation and grounding
→ Prioritizing the bedroom first — because long-duration sleep exposure matters most
